Mt. Tai is known as the eastern mountain of the Five Great Mountains. It is regarded as the foremost of the five and has been a place of worship for at least 3,000 years in the ancient Chinese empires. Since it has been frequently visited by Chinese emperors for divine ceremonies, the steps up to the mountain has been constructed as straightforward and wide, like the "path to the heaven".
Though mainly being touristic, the mountain always has some other sides that are more natural for the real outdoor people. The East Tai has places for ice climbing in winter.
