Yan Dang Mountains in a broad sense refers to a coastal mountain range and can be divided into the Mt. Yan Dang South and the Mt. Yan Dang North, the later being for tourists. The trail rides on the ridge connecting the four major peaks of Mt. Yan Dang North and is of easy access from Shanghai by speedy G trains.
The trail is short, featured, and exciting, with slow paced steps through pine forest, the wild Goose Lake surrounded by reeds on the mountain top, the bamboo grove leaving only your head out of it, and a highly exposed rock path that must be aided with ropes.
My Canon G10 failed on the trip. The lens refused to retract when I turned it off. I forced it back in by hand, which damaged the autofocus function. Every photo I took afterward came out blurry... but somehow, with a special feeling of its own.
