I went hiking in New Zealand to find my previous climbing partner who now lives there. The second place he took me to was Cascade Saddle, a track near Wanaka.
Due to New Zealand's high latitude, the snow line is remarkably low. At 2,000 meters, I was surrounded by snow-capped peaks and glaciers, landscapes that, back home, usually don't appear until 4,000 or 5,000 meters.
I didn't hike any "famous" routes in New Zealand. That's OK. After so many years on the trail, I don't feel that a destination's reputation is what matters most. What matters is the experience itself.
