Mt. Mayon is one of the most active volcano in the Philippines and has the perfect cone shape as famous as Mt. Fuji. Not long ago before my visit, several Germans were killed by spewed rocks, so the summiting is closed.
Therefore, I arranged a guided overnight hiking to the middle of the mountain. But it was pouring every day when I arrived at Legazpi, so my adventure finally turned into a one day climbing.
Legazpi is a charming small city with perhaps a bit of Spanish taste. It is perhaps suggested by the name Mayon (from "magayon") meaning "beauty" in the local language.
