The MacLehose Trail is Hong Kong's longest hiking route, running from the far east to the far west of New Territories. It zigzags enough to round the total distance up to exactly 100 km. As it happens, the trail is the same age as me.

The biggest surprise came on Section 6, where a monkey slammed into me and seized an entire bag containing eight hours' worth of food. Walking through a troop of monkeys, I couldn't help feeling that I was the one at the bottom of the food chain.

Another first for me was hiking the entire trail in a pair of LEMS barefoot shoes. No sore feet, no aching legs, just 100 km of surprisingly comfortable walking.
